As International Women’s Day is slowly approaching us, you’re probably wondering how to celebrate the favourite woman of your life. Before going any further, we would like to share with you a little background story.
Why do we celebrate International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day celebrates the social, political, economic, and achievements of women. This day, inspired by woman’s movements, goes way back in time, during 1848 in the United State, when two American women named Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott gather a few hundred people at the first Women’s Rights Convention, also known as Seneca Falls Convention, held in New York, against being barred from speaking at an anti-slavery convention. These actions mark the begging of the movement, also known as feminism – the fight for our rights!
When is it celebrated?
The first time a day was celebrated as Women’s Day was on February 28th, 1909 – organized by the Socialist Party of America. One year later, German socialists proposed this day to be held annually. In 1913 the official celebratory date was changed to March 8.
Even if we should be showing our love and support towards the women in our lives every day, we’ve gathered a few ideas on how you can show your appreciation for your favourite women, whether it’s your mother, sister, wife, best friend, or cousin… on this celebratory date!
Even though a bouquet might look like a cliché, it is a present every woman would be happy to receive. You must still bear in mind that some women might prefer to get a plant, which will last longer!
2. Spa treatment
We live such busy lives, so give your women some time to reset! Getting her a spa treatment could be her little escape, and me time
3. Surprise travel
Gifting someone an experience can be very unique, and both of you will make great memories, that will last a lifetime! With COVID in the picture, it might be harder to pick a further destination, but you still have the freedom to choose a local one or buy tickets for a further date in time!
Invest some money in a good, high-quality jewellery piece, that will last forever! If you want to make this present even more special, engrave it with a beautiful letter, or a significant date.
5. Outdoor picnic
This can be very suitable, especially now, when there aren’t any open restaurants at the moment. Cook her favourite meal, throw a beautiful blanket, good wine, and dessert in a picnic basket, and take yourselves to some pretty destination with a beautiful view!
