The beauty industry is constantly changing over time- and with that comes new makeup or skincare trends to try.
One thing for sure is that more makeup and skincare brands will cause less damage to the planet this year. We’ve learnt that the packaging these products come in can take hundreds of years to break down in landfills, and can also leak toxins and chemicals into the soil and water supply which can kill oceans and wildlife. This year, we will see many more products that are biodegradable, natural, organic, cruelty free, and eco-friendly. Some brands to look out and search for are:
Joy shampoos and soaps
The brand ‘Joy’ should be a staple in your bathroom. It comes in a box made of recycled paper, which can also be recycled once you’ve used it. It’s made with Rainforest Alliance Certified palm oil, meaning it doesn’t harm the rainforests when the palm oil is harvested. Alongside these two already-amazing factors, but the proceeds this product makes from it’s sales create mobile showers for the homeless. What’s stopping you from ordering some right now?!
All Earth Mineral Cosmetics
All Earth Mineral Cosmetics is based in Cornwall in the UK. They have a range of makeup and skincare products, all with ethically sourced minerals and botanicals. Not only are their products vegan and cruelty-free, but their packaging is 100% biodegradable and they offer zero waste refills.

Trends are something that don’t typically reoccur in such a short time frame, however 2022 is set to be the year for this. Trends including bushy brows and thick eyeliner will be making an appearance over the year, so get your old makeup out and ready. More specifically, cut crease eyeshadow will become increasingly popular again. We can expect bold eyeshadows with the crease cut out, or shadow pencil in the crease blended out into different eyeshadow looks.
Natural-dewy base makeup is in for 2022. Ditch your full coverage foundation and go for a half coverage foundation, or maybe even a tinted moisturiser. This year is all about accepting yourself and being comfortable in your own skin, so embrace it! This trend makes sense due to still having to wear masks for COVID 19, as heavy makeup under masks can irritate your skin. Complete the look with an eye-catching mascara and fluffy brows.
We can expect to see more lightweight products on the shelf to help complete this look. A good example is Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturiser Natural Skin Perfector. You can shop this below.
Metallic and glitter
Metallic looks, such as eyeshadows and lipsticks are set to be one of the hottest trends of 2022. They can renovate your standard everyday makeup into a glam, night-out-ready look in just a matter of moments. For majority of the metallic products, all you have to do is dab them on your lips or lids and let them dry. Linked to this, glitter will be the highlight of many looks this year, thanks to season 2 of Euphoria. The most popular way to show off the glitter is on your lids to add some sparkle to any look.
A metallic liquid eyeshadow everyone is talking about is Danessa Myricks Twin Flames Liquid Eyshadows. It’s already being used by plenty of makeup artists on celebs, and is available in an amazing 10 different colours!
