Brands Stepping up Their Sustainability Efforts

Whilst some brands are working on entering the sustainability game, others are improving their already existing efforts. Here’s a list of 5 brands and what they are bringing to the table.

Clarins is testing out a new recycling program where you can hand in your empties for recycling at participating stores. They accept just about anything, plastic tubes, pots, jars, tubes, dispensers, caps and pumps – they even accept beauty packaging from other brands. As long as the product is empty and dry they will take it.

They do not, however, accept bamboo, cardboard and wood packaging, aerosols, perfume bottles or nail polish bottles.

What’s more is 100% of their paper and cardboard comes from sustainably managed forests (FSC or PEFC certified).

Chanel is taking a step in the right direction with their new N°1 DE CHANEL beauty line. The packaging is free from cellophane, paper leaflets and the bottles are made from lighter-weight glass. The classic paper leaflet has been replaced by a QR code printed directly on the packaging, which provides product information digitally. There are also refillable bottles and many of the lids contain recycled or bio-sourced material.

Fresh has become a member of the Union For Ethical Biotrade which focuses on sourcing with respect. The Union For Ethical Biotrade is a non-profit association under the United Nations that advocates for sustainable ingredient sourcing, respect for biodiversity and equitable socio economic practices.

This TikTok famous hair care brand, OGX, has some ambitious sustainability goals for the future. They aim to get rid of black plastic from their products by 2022. In the future they will also begin manufacturing some of their products using post-consumer resin and aim to fully convert to this by 2030.

Fenty has introduced their new Fenty Icon Case and Lipstick, a new way to try out multiple different shades of lipstick without all the clunky packaging. With this new combination from Fenty you can purchase a separate luxe case and replace the lipstick as you see fit. They also offer several refill options for their skincare products, allowing you to reduce your packaging waste.
