Have You Ever Wanted to Smell Like an Oreo? Now Your Dreams Can Come True, With ELF’s New Cookies’n’Dreams Range!

By Claudia Rowthorn

Black lip gloss? I tried it from ELF’s new limited edition makeup line dedicated to cookies & cream, and it’s kind of what you would expect… but is that a good thing?

High-street retailer Elf have just launched a limited-edition 13-piece makeup line inspired by cookies and cream. The range is easy to spot due to its bright blue packaging to match the theme of the launch. Within the collection, there is a ‘Milkshake Overnight Mask’, 3 shades of lip gloss, sponge, putty primer, 4 shades of the ‘No Budge Eyeshadow’, an eye trio brush set, ‘Cookie Crumble Lip Exfoliator’ and an 8-shade eyeshadow palette. Some of the products showcase extra-fun packaging, such as the Putty Primer which has been adapted to look like a large Oreo. All the products in the range are vegan and cruelty free, just like the rest of Elf Beauty.

The range is scented like cookies and cream, which is either a love-it or hate-it situation. Personally, I found that it is not too overpowering and just smells like vanilla but if scent is something you factor into your make-up buying decisions, I would definitely consider this.

After browsing the range in Superdrug, I was mostly drawn to the lip gloss in the shade ‘Cookie Dreams’, as it is a glittery black colour. The glosses claim to be ‘buildable, non-sticky with a high-shine finish’, which I agree with as I have used Elf lip-glosses for ages. They also contain vitamin E and coconut oil to help nourish and hydrate the lips. However, I was sceptical of this black shade, and how it would look on the lips.

The gloss on my lips

I am surprised by how much I liked the lip gloss and can honestly see myself reaching for it again and again. It leaves the lips a gorgeous cool-toned brown shade, which looks stunning on top of a brown lip liner (I used Cappucino lip liner from Collection underneath). It looks surprisingly natural! Elf recommends using the gloss on top of lipstick to cool the shade down and add shimmer or use it alone for a beautiful cool and sparkly hue. It is not sticky at all, and actually did stay on for quite a while!

At only £4, this gloss is honestly a steal, and although it is not the most long-lasting gloss I’ve ever tried, it’s quite unique in colour and the finish is just amazing considering it costs less than a fiver. Despite the potentially off-putting idea of cookies and cream scented makeup, the scent is not too strong, and the products look super cute!
