A surprise collaboration with Lacoste and Bruno Mars’ new alter ego
French fashion powerhouse Lacoste has teamed up with Bruno Mars for the launch of his new lifestyle collection, Lacoste x Ricky Regal, with the popstar channelling his designer alter ego “Ricky Regal”. This partnership bridges Bruno’s distinctive style and personality with the iconic history of sport and luxury that is Lacoste.
The 35-year-old has ventured in to several collaborations within the past, but this time he has full creative control over what he wants to release to the world. “Lacoste was the first and only brand that said ‘Bruno you can do whatever you want.’ The respect of such creative freedom coming from a heritage fashion house was an honour”, said Bruno as he highlights this matter.
Strong colours feature within this collaboration, with Bruno Mars’ eccentric eye for style really coming through; mustard yellow, petrol green, eggplant purple, coral red, and of course, tie-dye. It highlights Bruno’s keen eye for standing out in the crowd, with Lacoste’s sportswear expertise allowing him to express himself by any means necessary. The use of various fabrics such as velvet, silk and cotton adds to the sense of elegance which Lacoste has been known for since they were founded in 1933.
The range of ready-to-wear clothing will feature an array of items, including shirts, pop tracksuits, polo shirts, t-shirts, trousers, shorts, slides and socks, as well as a super-stylish pair of aviator sunglasses. Within this collection, there is something for everyone.
When it comes to his alter-ego, fans may be confused as to why he chooses this name. “When I’m on stage my name is Bruno Mars. When I’m making lavish luxurious garments, I go by Ricky Regal” explains Bruno, with his first capsule as Ricky set to be extremely successful.
This is Bruno’s design debut, with the partnership launching throughout the week. The first release is happening on Friday 5th March at exclusive retailers, and then on Monday 8th March online at lacoste.com. Due to it being such a high-profile collaboration between two major names, it is set to sell out quickly, as fashion and music fans alike will be aiming to get their hands on this anticipated collection.
