Key takeaways from the new Euphoria episode

The first special episode of Euphoria arrived in the UK on Monday (7th December) and it didn’t disappoint.  🚨 Warning, spoilers ahead! 🚨

Euphoria is due to return for season two in early 2021. In the meantime, the creators of the show have gifted us with two ‘bridge’ episodes to keep us entertained until its return.

The first episode focuses on Rue and takes place after she left Jules at the train station in season one. For the first few moments we see Rue’s life with Jules, but we soon find out Rue is using again and it’s a fantasy she’s made up.

She walks out into the diner where she is joined by her sobriety sponsor Ali, whom she is celebrating Christmas with. If you wanted to see glitter make-up and bold outfits then this episode is not for you, but it’s a clear reminder of why Zendaya won an Emmy for this role in September and I wouldn’t be surprised if she won another one for this episode alone.

Rue and Ali delve into deep subjects talking about why Rue doesn’t want to get sober, her relationship with Jules and addiction. We find out about Ali’s personal problems regarding his addiction and family. We found out that he beat his children’s mother in front of them, turning into his father he hated for ‘’30 years.’’

The whole episode is a long conversation between Rue and Ali, and you can’t keep your eyes off the screen. Zendaya and Colman Domingo (Ali) keep you mesmerised by their delivery of the dialogue.

Personally, I cannot wait for the other episode, which will focus on Jules. This is set to air on January 24, 2021.
