If you haven’t been watching “Squid Game” on Netflix, WHY NOT?! Only a couple of weeks after its release, Squid Game has already become Netflix’s biggest international success. It is also set to rival 2020’s Bridgerton for the all time top spot. Tik Tokkers have gone wild in the aisles recreating the games, much-loved memes and even ideas to create your own honeycomb challenge! The hashtag #squidgame has now had over 27.5 BILLION views on TikTok.
Female Lead Jung Ho-yeon ( player 067) sky rocketed from 400k to 16million Instagram followers in just three weeks, following release of the hit show. As a result she has been named as the most followed Korean actress on Instagram and has now become global ambassador for Louis Vuitton.
27-year-old Jung has been modelling since the age of 16. She was dubbed “Korea’s next top model” by Vogue, having appeared on the show of the same name and placed second in 2013. Walking at Seoul Fashion Week, and representing herself with no agent, she went on to work with designers including Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Max Mara, D&G, Chanel, Miu Miu and Jean-Paul Gautier to name but a few.
Known for her signature fiery red hair in her early career and warm personality. Ho-yeon was already making a name for herself in fashion before Squid Game propelled her into overnight global super stardom.
Jung focussed her studies, learnt English and took acting classes to branch out in to acting. She also wanted a way to relieve her loneliness when she was travelling. When asked if she was afraid that crossing over from modelling to acting would be difficult, she responded : “I know it will be, but I just don’t think that there’s a limit for one person”
Much sooner than expected, Ho-yeon was invited to audition for Squid Game…. Nailed it.
