Top picks: indie jewellery brands

The pandemic has meant that everyone has struggled, whether you are a huge high street chain or an independent, small business. However, I certainly know that for myself, online shopping has kept me entertained over lockdown. I fell down a deep hole of independent, handmade jewellery stores, and every single one is as unique as the last. In this article, I’ll tell you about my top picks of independent, handmade jewellery brands I have been loving.

1. Vicious Punx

I found these guys a while ago, and have bought more pieces than I can count on all of my fingers and toes, the quality and affordability is just unbelievable. Known for their punk, edgy style, Vicious Punx are a handmade online jewellery store who offer their customers a hugely extensive range of jewellery – from earrings, to personalised necklaces, to body chains – they do it all. Most of their pieces are stainless steel, so safe in water, and the weight and feel of each piece feels just like something you’d expect to pay a whole lot more for. Out of my huge Vicious Punx collection, I would say my favourite is my personalised heart pendant necklace. I wanted it to say ‘Hopeless Romantic’ – and me being picky, I wanted to change the shape of the pendant to a heart – and sure enough, my necklace came in the post a few days later. I cannot recommend this brand enough, they care so much about what they do all while continuing to promote equality, sustainability and self-expression through their products.

2. Creations by Elli Kenn

The sweetest jewellery and accessory brand you’ll ever see, literally. 19-year-old Elli creates a range of products all from her bedroom using polymer clay, these often feature your favourite nostalgic sweets and biscuits (think jammy dodgers, custard creams, love hearts…), and sells them through her Instagram and Depop. She makes to order, so that there is no waste and I have seen her Instagram account grow and grow and grow. I ordered some party ring earrings and a sunflower hairclip – which altogether was only £10 – for something so delicately handmade! Her bright and crazy-realistic creations will brighten up your Instagram feed instantly (@creationsbyellikenn)

3. Belle Stelle

I found this gorgeously nostalgic jewellery store on Depop a while ago, and since have bought a few pieces! This creator takes 90s bead trends to the next adorable level, colourful beads, pearls and cute charms are all handmade and can be personalised with letter beads (you know, the ones we made with friendship bracelets?!). This shop brings personal touches and combines it with the creator’s unique style. Visit bellestelle on Depop to shop, or visit their Instagram @bellestelle_.

4. Idol Jewellery

This brand is known for their personalised, colourful and beautiful necklaces. Made with the nostalgic colourful beads we know and love, the creator also uses Mother of Pearl letters to spell out whatever you like. Each necklace is individually crafted and sent out with a sticker sheet too. If you are into crystals, Idol Jewellery also offers a nice selection of crystal jewellery too. Visit Idol Jewellery on Etsy to shop.

5. The Gemstoners

My final pick for this article is indie crystal brand The Gemstoners. They offer a wide variety of crystal-based products, which include wall hangings, greetings cards, hair accessories and of course jewellery. Each piece is lovingly made by hand and comes with the healing properties you would expect from your chosen crystal, all while sparkling in the sunshine. There is something for everyone, and each piece would make a gorgeous gift. Not only this, but The Gemstoners also offer a quiz and an Instagram filter to see what crystal would be best for you; just take a look at my PR account @tothestarspr to have a go for yourself.
