#Fastfoodfriday – vegan eats

Since the ever-growing popularity of vegetarians and vegans, many big brands have been seen jumping onto the bandwagon to make their business more inclusive to consumer needs. Slowly but surely, we are seeing more vegan options on shelves. But is it time for fast-food brands to join in on the fun?

Most people believe that if you are vegan but eat out at popular fast-food chains, you are sinning. However, we all have times where we need a quick accessible meal, and low and behold there is a McDonalds on every corner!

In light of it being the beginning of Lent, a time where people enjoy giving up things, I’ve put together a list of 5 fast-food names with vegan options. Hopefully this will be helpful for everyone whose doing their part and at least attempting to go meatless this year!

1. Greggs – Vegan Sausage Roll

First and foremost, we have Greggs with their infamous Vegan Sausage Roll. Designed in a way which mirrors the ever-so-loved original sausage roll, this vegan option includes 96 layers or light puff pastry wrapped around a lovely Quorn filling. It really is a vegan dream!

2. KFC – Fingerlickin’ Vegan

Next, we have KFC who have just recently, as of January, joined the vegan club. Introducing their new Original Recipe Vegan Burger, KFC managed to sell a whopping 1 million of them within the first week of launching! The Original Recipe Vegan Burger is a meat-free version to their iconic Chicken Fillet Burger. It is filled with a yummy Quorn fillet, vegan mayo and ice-berg lettuce, served in a soft-glazed bun.

3. Pizza Hut – Violife Pizza

Vegan + Pizza seems like a very easy task however when it comes to takeaways, it’s not as simple. Luckily, Pizza Hut ended our misery back in 2018 when they launched a range of vegan options! From pizza with Violife’s signature ‘Vegan Ch**se’ to southern fried nuggets made from Quorn, Pizza Hut is doing more than enough!

Whether you’re sharing with friends or indulging by yourself (shhh..) , there is so many options out for delivery!

4. McDonalds – Veggie Dippers

McDonalds nuggets but plant based. Heaven in a box! McDonalds is another big fast food brand who has jumped into the vegan world this year. They are already familiar with meat-free meals, with their veggie wraps, however in January they released their brand new ‘Veggie Dippers’.

An alternative to the McNuggets, these new dippers are made with red pepper, rice, sundried tomato pesto and split peas. Covered in crispy breadcrumbs.

5. Subway – Meatless Meatball Marinara Melt

Lastly, we have Subway. A holy presence in the form of a sandwich. That’s my opinion anyways. Of course, there was always a vegan option, choosing only vegetables and missing out on the cheese filling, however Subway has recently gone just that step further for its consumers.

New to 2020 is the Meatless Meatball Marinara Melt, a real tongue twister. Made from plant-based meatballs, rich marinara sauce, vegan cheese and any bread selection, this sandwich is definitely one to try.
