10 ways to let go of anger

Life doesn’t always go the way we want it to, but it is important for our health not to feel angry about that. That is easier said than done, so we have collected 10 ways to let go of anger, so you can have a more peaceful mind.

  1. Recognise where your anger is coming from – it is important to know exactly what has caused this feeling. Is it something you can control or is it out of your hands? Take yourself away/ out of the situation if you can.
  2. The most obvious strategy is relaxation methods – these could be breathing techniques, yoga, or meditation. When you’re angry everything is intense and you may end up doing or saying something you regret, which is why it is important to take a step back and calm down.
  3. Write down how you feel – expressing your feelings by writing them down can help you to process your thoughts properly. Also painting or drawing can help to let your feelings out
  4. Take part in daily exercise – physical exercise such as walking or running are highly effective in releasing stress or anger. It also releases endorphins and so will naturally make you feel better.
  5. Talk to a friend – speak to a friend you trust and know wont judge you, then listen to their feedback and advice on the situation. A new perspective is always helpful.
  6. Talk to a friend – speak to a friend you trust and know wont judge you, then listen to their feedback and advice on the situation. A new perspective is always helpful.
  7. Find a solution – work on finding a way to fix what caused your anger, rather than focusing on the situation itself. Use your energy effectively.
  8. Don’t hold a grudge – holding a grudge has negative effects on the body and can make your emotional state toxic. Think forgivingly, put your self in the other persons shoes and try to be empathetic. This might take time but use other techniques first if you aren’t quite there yet.
  9. Don’t play the victim – take responsibility. Only you can control how you feel. Life does not always go how you want, but only you can decide how you react to that.
  10. Learn forgiveness – when you forgive you let go of any anger, resentment or hopes of revenge towards a person/ situation. Your anger will be released, and you will have a peaceful mind.
