How to dress to impress yourself #CarbonCares

And why it’s definitely something you should be doing

It’s all too easy to slip into the habit of dressing to impress others; the people you spend time with, the people you’re romantically interested in, society as a whole… but that’s not what fashion is all about! We’ve put together a list of reasons why you should dress to impress yourself and how to do it.

Why you should think of yourself first when dressing to impress

Fashion and personal style can be one of the most obvious ways to express yourself and what you believe in. If you dress to impress yourself, following trends you think look amazing or send a powerful message, you will be radiating your own good vibes- what’s not to love about that?

Dressing to impress yourself also avoids falling into the trap of dressing to impress others which is virtually impossible because a) you’ll never please everyone, and b) if we’re being honest, it gets so tiring! With that said, here are some things to consider when you’re doing your next online haul…

Dressing to impress (yourself)

Trial with colours

When it comes to colour, consider what makes you happy, whether that be because it cheers you up or because it brings out the colour in your skin and compliments your natural looks. Try clashing colours, bright colours, tonal colours, pastels- whatever you like.

What you love

Fashion can be a huge part of personal expression but often the desire to follow what’s trending takes this element away. Dressing in a way that expresses what you love can be really empowering. This could vary from a concert t-shirt from an artist you like, a whole outfit inspired by a role model or even just a slogan sweatshirt- make your passion known!

Shop compassionately

Impress yourself in a different sense by shopping compassionately and sustainably! Try piecing together a whole outfit from sustainable, vegan fashion. Think vegan leather (New Look has a new vegan accessory range) and second-hand pieces! By shopping sustainably you’ll be doing a huge favour to the earth and the animals that we share it with and what’s not to like about that?
